Salon #12, Platform Eindhovense Kunstenaars, Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Work by Jose Keerkens

February 5-12, 2010

For every Salon exhibition Foundation PEK, Platform Eindhovense Kunstenaars, invites one or more artists whose work relates to the vision of PEK.

The work of José Heerkens and Henriëtte van ’t Hoog is about light and space. They search and research many aspects of these themes, in the language of colour and form. In the abstract approach their paintings and objects meet each other.

Henriëtte van ’t Hoog

The geometric abstract work of Henriëtte van ’t Hoog often makes you lose your balance. She plays with the perspective of cube-like forms, with their three-dimensionality, their colour and light. When you walk along these objects, their forms change, their perspective collapses. The reflecting paint on the back of the object radiates its colour on the wall. The reflection emphasises its spatiality and gives the thing a poetic annotation. Consequently, the work of Henriëtte van ’t Hoog is at the same time concrete and not concrete.

José Heerkens

A fascination for the endlessness of the space of landscape forms the basis of José Heerkens’ work. Line is always an important means to visualise space. Lines form and they lead space toward rhythmic constructions. They thereby convey the colours over the canvas. Colour is light, space, energy and movement, and José Heerkens strives towards a space where these qualities, in all clarity, meet. The painting becomes a place where light and space seek and form each other.
