Gallery IMA presents I Want More! a solo show by Seattle artist Eric Olson. Olson’s “dot paintings” are two-dimensional and sculptural work based on the ideas of structure, change and randomness. Heavily influenced by number tables that translate visually into meditative patterns of kaleidoscope colors, Eric’s work is created by meticulously applying acrylic paint directly from the tube onto surfaces of aluminum and wood panels.

Olson expresses the tension that lies within the repeating flux of values, ideas and structure that define our lives. With this latest collection of work, Eric has “added to the complexity of the pattern by placing more dots of smaller circumference on the surface, pushing the dot pattern and movement to play stronger against the grid” he explains. “The idea is that we keep adding and adding, not wanting to let things go, as life continues to get busier and more complicated. All because we want more.”

Mr. Olson received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University, an MBA from Seattle University and studied Visual Arts at the Pratt Fine Arts Center. In addition to the several solo and group exhibitions that he has appeared in nationwide, Olson was chosen to participate in the 5th Avenue Theatre’s “Connecting the Dots” project. He has work in several public and private collections including Neiman Marcus and Harborview Medical Center, and has received numerous grants and awards including the 4Culture Special Projects Grant in 2007.
